Role Overview: 

Volunteer Drivers provide a vital transport service for SSW members. This role supports people to attend medical appointments safely and confidently.

What You Will Be Doing

Depending on your availability and experience, you may:

  • Drive members to medical appointments in and around West Sussex, and Brighton and Hove
  • Wait with members during their appointments to ensure you are available when they finish
  • Drive members safely back home
  • Occasionally provide support during appointments, such as note taking, if appropriate and agreed

Skills & Qualities

We’re looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly, conversational, and helpful
  • Flexible and willing to support members and the wider team
  • Respectful of confidentiality
  • Sensitive to the needs of people with visual impairments

Organisation & Practical Skills

  • Able to manage time well and prioritise journeys
  • Confident with route planning and punctuality

Requirements

  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Access to your own vehicle suitable for transporting visually impaired passengers, including those with limited mobility
  • Willing to claim fuel and parking/toll costs from members at 50p per mile (in line with UK Government guidance)
