There are lots of ways in which you can fundraise, from one-off events, to using social media, or being sponsored for a challenging activity. Read on for ideas and inspiration!
No doubt you are aware of large events where it is possible to book a place and be sponsored on behalf of a charity. Examples include the London or Brighton Marathon, the Worthing Half Marathon, skydiving, swimming, trekking, the London to Brighton cycle ride, and any number of different types of physically challenging activities. Some challenges you’ll need to have a specially-allocated space but with many, you can simply be sponsored with some or all of the money you raise coming to us. We can advise the best way for you to go about choosing a challenge, being sponsored, and provide you with materials or any SSW-branded items you might need.
There are also less physical ways to be sponsored! Perhaps you’d be happy to shave your hair off, or sit in a bath of cold water, perhaps even attempting to go without your phone for a day or chocolate for a month?! There’s all sorts of fun and challenging ways for you to encourage people to sponsor you. If you need inspiration, get in touch!
As with sponsorship, there are lots of ideas for raising money in ways that suit your interests or skills. Maybe you’re a keen baker, and can oversee a cake sale? Perhaps you’d like to organise an event, or run a raffle? If you’re a keen social media user, you could simply use the ‘donate’ sticker on a story or series of stories.
Recently we’ve had people ask for donations to SSW in celebration of their wedding anniversaries and birthdays, instead of receiving presents. You can do this by asking for cash donations or by using JustGiving. Alternatively if you use Facebook (or lots of your friends and family do!) you can set up a fundraising page on there too. Head here to start!
Did you know that you can nominate a portion of your sales on eBay to go to a charity of your choice? It’s very easy to set up, and you can choose how much of your sale price you’d like to donate. There’s more information here about setting it up. Once you’ve made your sale, eBay collects and sends the money to us on your behalf so you don’t even need to think about how to manage that.
This year (until October 2024) we are lucky enough to be part of the Co-op Local Community Fund. This means that if you nominate us in your online account, we will get a portion of their Fund! It’s a simple and no-cost way for you to donate to SSW. You can access your account and choose us here. If you’d like help to do this or would like to set up an account, do get in touch so we can assist.
