Tech

What It’s For

Assistive technology is an umbrella term for assistive products and their related systems and services.

Assistive products help maintain or improve an individual’s functioning related to cognition, communication, hearing, mobility, self-care and vision, thus enabling their health, well-being, inclusion and participation. (WHO)

What we can help with

  • Advice on assistive technology such as audio / talkback / screen readers on devices.
  • Advice on magnifier settings or digital magnifiers.
  • Help setting up with assistive tech (such as accessibility settings on phones, or standalone devices).
  • Help with some indirect set-up to facilitate the use of assistive tech.
  • Ordering assistive tech.
  • Setting up Amazon Echo devices for Alexa. This includes our trial service.

What we can’t help with

  • Fixing computers or phones, or services that might require an engineer or paid for specialist.
  • Handling anything that involves a contract, for example with a phone company, such as problems with landlines.
  • Ordering generic tech such as PCs or Laptops, particularly where they are expensive.
  • Support using regular apps – such as helping people design things on Canva. Other than where the help is specifically regarding the use of accessibility settings.
  • Home visits outside of Worthing (BN11, BN12, BN13, BN14). A member is more than welcome to attend to centre.
