Role Overview: 

To provide a driving service to members of a charity that supports people who are visually impaired to attend medical and personal appointments.

Hours / days to be agreed

Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator

Example of duties depending on skills and experience:

  • Driving members to medical and personal appointments, in and around the West Sussex area
  • Waiting with members whilst they attend the appointments, ensuring that they are present for when the appointment finishes
  • Driving the members back home
  • On occasion, assisting within appointments (if appropriate) by note taking or support, if needed

Soft skills

  • Friendly, conversational, helpful and flexible to support charity service users / members and the team
  • Maintaining confidentiality for SSW members
  • Sensitivity towards each member you are working with

Organisation

  • Able to prioritise and deal with a variety of tasks
  • Confident in route planning and good timekeeping

Requirements

  • Full clean driving licence
  • Access to your own transport that is suitable for visually impaired passengers, possibly with limited mobility

Our drivers charge SSW members fuel costs and any car parking/toll fees, at 50p per mile as recommended by the UK Government
